How do you measure a year?
One of the most famous songs from the musical, as well as in general as a Broadway tune, is "Seasons of Love" (or you may recognize it by the chorus, "525,600 minutes/525,000 moments so dear/525,600 minutes/How do you measure, measure a year"). Here's the movie version if you want to check that out.
I've been reflecting on that idea a lot lately, especially since I have begun documenting and essentially scrapbooking my life in my journals and planners. And as December 24, 9pm, Eastern Standard time approaches (Rent reference), I thought I'd reflect back on what made up my year of 2018.
2018
I graduated from Pitzer College in May with a Bachelor's in Psychology
I was accepted to Claremont Graduate University for their Positive Developmental Psychology Program
I began the program and withdrew a couple weeks in, realizing the research and statistics was not for me. And that was okay.
I enrolled in online community college courses in early childhood education, to qualify for local teaching positions.
I discovered I may have a passion for teaching (who would've guessed?!)
I posted semi-regularly on this blog, building my writing portfolio and sharing my story with the world.
I attended PlannerCon in March with my friend Lizzette, taking a spontaneous road trip when I came to the dreadful realization on the morning of that I left my state ID in Marin (Thanks again for being so amazing with that! Best birthday gift ever!)
I stayed in contact with friends from Claremont and from the Bay Area, despite distance and life changes.
I got a cat.
I moved into my own place in Claremont, where I am settled for the six months at least.
I traveled with my parents and sister over the summer, taking accommodations as needed but having an awesome time in Europe and Iceland.
I finished many knit projects, all documented in my planner
(see photo on left)
Ditto for audiobooks.
I joined a health club and started the journey to getting back in shape by eating better and exercising regularly.
I made two quilts, one for my mom and one for my sister.
I made a beautiful sweater for myself and a vest for my grandpa.
It was a good year.
With love and strength,
Rivi
P.S. Trying to get this out on time so I'll add more and link posts later!
